Team Overview
Reporting to a Director within the Risk Program led by the Global Risk Management Group (GRM), the Technical Writer/Senior Technical Writer will be assigned to risk management framework, policy, standard, and procedure (Policy Instruments) writing objectives. These objectives fall within the scope of a comprehensive, multi-year program intended to address Global Risk Management (GRM) framework, policy and process enhancements at Export Development Canada (EDC). The Technical Writer/Senior Technical Writer may also be assigned to writing communication memos related to the Risk Program. The Technical Writer/Senior Technical Writer will work collaboratively with stakeholders, including leadership and business subject matter experts (SMEs) to achieve optimal Policy Instrument outcomes, ensure overall program success and drive long-term benefits realization.
Discipline Summary
- Supports EDC’s Risk Program by writing and reviewing high-quality Policy Instruments for various EDC departments
- Analyzes, researches, develops, composes, and/or edits Policy Instruments according to EDC’s standards and procedures
- Partners with SMEs to create and/or revise Policy Instruments
- Revises and updates Policy Instruments regularly to ensure the most relevant and up to date versions are readily available
- May support the Risk Program by writing and reviewing internal communication memos/presentations or other similar duties as required
Key Responsibilities
- Drawing from risk management experience within the financial services sector, reviews, interprets, edits and/or prepares various EDC Policy Instruments, while ensuring that they are consistent, concise, clear, understandable, accessible and aligned to EDC’s Policy Instrument standards.
- Ensures Policy Instrument requirements are properly analyzed, documented, rationalized, presented and approved in form and substance that is consistent with EDC’s Policy Instrument standards
- Works within the policy governance framework
- Draws from existing knowledge of lending and insurance risk concepts and vocabulary to write Policy Instruments
Screening Criteria
- Undergraduate Degree or College Diploma plus relevant work experience.
- Minimum 5 or 7 years of experience creating and/or editing corporate financial services documents such as policies, standards, guidelines, procedures, operations manuals, curriculum design, or related experience
- Extensive risk management experience within financial services policy development
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Visio
- Excellent written, verbal and communication (presentation) skills in English
- Strong collaboration skills to engage effectively with various stakeholders and subject matter experts
Assets
- Master’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Communications, Journalism or other relevant discipline
- Experience in Canadian banking risk management or other organizations within the Canadian financial services sector
- Knowledge of financial services risk management and/or commercial lending and/or credit insurance and/or capital management and/or market risk management and/or non financial risk policy and guidelines development
- Experience using AI based tools in policy drafting and streamlining
- Bilingual in both official languages (French and English)
Compensation Details:
- Enterprise Risk Management 18: Salaries typically range from $94,664 to $126,219 annually, based on qualifications and experiences.

- Export Development Canada is a hybrid work environment.
- This role will be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa.
